hey kids
had a few days r&r in sunny florida
to take a break from the long, long, long, wet winter in nyc
it was snowing the day i left
and honey snow in march
is like relatives who just won’t leave after the weekend
too much!
it felt so fantabulous to smell the ocean
feel sun on my skin
and just thaw out
and then there were all the shocking things that happened
as L and i walked down the street
if i asked her a question like “where do you think a great dinner would be?” strangers passing by would answer
in the 711 a stranger took time to tell L great places to get her nails done and the prices
at the airport strangers sat down and proceeded to tell us about their life
even on the plane back, a stranger told l his entire life story
so i don’t know if its that folks in this sleepy part of florida
have a lot of time on their hands and are lonely
or just plain open and friendly
it was nice
but as a new yorker
i was keenly aware of my battle armor going up every time
my fave part was being able to swim in the ocean, leave my beach bag on the beach and not worry about anyone taking it
our driver told us
he lost the key to his apartment a year ago
never locked it
and never worried
wow
the toss up
well no edge
no culture really except for a beach bar and a few towel shops
and a movie theatre
no groovy people in black
and lots and lots of rules
owning a home in this part of florida
means you get a ticket if an extra car is parked in your driveway
and your neighbors
call to complain if too many friends visit
so all in all
i guess i’ll still take the bitchy new yorker
over the friendly, mega rules sleepy floridian
but man
it was sure nice to take a break from the fast lane
i mean shit
even on the highway you have rest stops!

well biscuits
life in nyc has been feeling a big hard of late
i guess anyone in this economy who is not super rich
or super poor feels the pressure
it certainly feels like the war against the middle class
don’t ya think?
the rich get richer and get tax breaks
the super poor get government assistance
and the middle class get screwed
but when i compare my extra tsuris against what the folks in japan are going through and the folks in lybia are going through
i just realize i need to shut the hell up, and give thanks
for my safe warm home, my loving friends and family, the plentiful food on my table and the chance to be so secure i am able to do something good for others upon occasion
last night i stopped off at a bagel joint
they were closing so they told me NO SOUP FOR YOU
but then the guy said “Hey do you want these bagels?”
about 24 nice plump ny bagels
i bagged them up and walked around thompkins square park giving them out to the home-less
they were thrilled, one guy almost drooled something green on me in thanks
i had 4 left over and that really thrilled my starving artist neighbor who got carbed up big time for his road trip
by the time i got home, i felt warm and fuzzy inside
sometimes the best way to feel better about your own strife
is to take the focus
off yourself and help others
worked for me anyway
i slept well last night
happy weekend folks

my heart goes out to all the innocent victims in Japan
and to those brave heroes risking their lives to save millions

i have to say when life gets you down
there’s nothing like the excitement of the oscars
this little cowgirl raced home
after catering a fabulous wedding
to jump into the bath
scrape the brisket juice off my arms
and turn on the TV

i predicted the following that came true
that melissa leo won
and love love love that she dropped the F bomb
here-after being know as the melissa leo f bomb
that christian bale would win for his awesome job in the fighter
but its hard to feel happy for christian bale
cause the guy is such a grump!
that colin firth would win
of course- so dashing and lovely
i just wanted to climb up on stage and make him a cup of tea

that lovely adorable, kind and talented and hebrew speaking!
natalie portman would win for black swan
of course of course! she so deserved it honeys
but really who ever heard of a deep talented person with a happy childhood
she may be the first
she loves her friggen parents
weird!

bummers for the night hmmm
well i like anne hathaway
not so nuts for her co-host james franco as a host
as and actor hes okay but as host hmmm boring
but really
there were only two truly GREAT oscar hosts

bob hope
and billy crystal

to really bring back the magic of oscars
we need a real song, dance, fun old hollywood kinda man

or woman

we need a danny kaye
a lucille ball

is there anyone like that anymore
and if you say justin beiber ill throw up on you
who the hell is this kid anyway
he’s everywhere and her creeps me out

but ya know in the end
the oscars
are just a chance for us to dream
and thats what i did all night long
dreaming that it was me saying the speeches
in the size 6 dress
looking that hot (not that im not)
sigh

its all just a guilty pleasure dears
but whatever works
