Arianna Huffington

I've been reading Arianna Huffington
who I have now decided I adore
partially because she's a great writer
and partially because she just did a guest appearance on "The L Word."

Just a fabulous all round babe I say..and amazingly she and I do not see eye to eye on many a thing...so this is not the "I like her cause she agrees with me thing.."

Anyhows if you haven't had a chance yet go check out her blog.

I've added her to my linkie love list so just scroll down to Arianna.

I was really intriqued by what she wrote about the Schiavo case..
and while she says that she as a mom would not have taken the tube out
(hence the not agreeing with me thing)
she actually went on to say just about the best thing I've yet read on this subject

So I'll just quote her right here..

"If the Republicans insist on making the “culture of life” a federal issue, the Democrats should, by all means, let them. But they need to make sure that the national debate doesn’t center on tragic anomalies like the Schiavo case but on the thousands of people whose lives are cut short because they lack access to decent health care or on the prolonged suffering of the millions of children living in poverty.

Instead of allowing themselves to be cowed by the fear of looking like they’re coming down on the immoral side of the moral values debate, Democrats should snap out of it and demand that the president interrupt his next vacation and that Bill Frist hold another midnight session of Congress to address the moral disgrace of 45 million people with no health insurance and 36 million people living in poverty. This is the only way to reclaim the moral high ground."

Earthquake

I was sitting at my local Cuban joint yesterday, picking at a churasco steak salad, sorta my Latin-Atkins thing, when the owner.. my pal Manny screamed, “Have you heard the news! Another Tsunami is coming!”

It was just too terrible to fathom. All that unprecedented death and horror. Those poor people just beginning to put their lives together and another cruel joke from the universe racing their way..

I heard later on, that the tsunamis had not come and at first felt a sign of relief. Then the death tolls began.

I believe there are 2,000 reported dead in Indonesia as I write this.

The image of panic stricken people running for their lives, people searching through rubble to find their loved ones.

It’s all so terribly, horribly familiar now.

This killer earthquake, an 8.7 erupted.. piercing through the first waves of peace and recovery from a stricken land and covering it with pain and anguish, death and loss.

Just three months after the “Killer Waves” decimated so many, many, lives. How could whatever higher power it is that controls the universe be so cruel?

I can’t imagine the terror that must have raced through the hearts of these people when the first warnings of another tsunami were in effect. Posttraumatic stress in full swing. “Here we go again,” so many must have cried.

I will not even pretend to understand or fathom how so many must have felt.

What I understand is this massive earthquake happened on the same fault line as the one in December that triggered the terrible Tsunamis. I can only hope, that this fault line is done with its rampage.

174,000 people were killed on Dec. 26.

To add to this death toll, three months later, is just a sadness that is beyond reason.

I only hope that peace, serenity and an end to bad times comes to these people and comes soon.

I sit here in my warm apartment; safe, dry and comfortable.

I think I will cease to bitch about anything today.

What, do I really have to complain about?

Turn on the news right now and then ask yourself…what do you really have to complain about?

Live Or Let Die

Well I’ve taken awhile to post about Terri Schiavo.

Mostly because I wanted to understand a little bit more about the background of the case before I did so.

My general feeling about cases when someone is in a vegetative state is that it’s best to let them go peacefully rather then drag them thru years of hell here on earth.

But, of course, if there is a chance they can be brought from that state, that’s another story too.

Generally I also side with the spouse on this one, because in every long term relationship I have ever had and even some of the short ones, I have always known the wishes of my lover far more and better then her parents have.

If this were to have happened to my most recent ex..I know full well that she would want to be let go. She has made me promise that on several occasions. I also know full well that her mother would fight to her dieing breath to keep her alive and consider it an abomination against Jehovah that I was letting her go.

Of course this would have been a case that would never have wound up with the mileage of the Schiavo case because this country would not have let the grieving spouse in a gay relationship have those rights, but that’s another story.

My own brother has started sending me emails, calling the removal of Terri’s tube to be a crime against god and a public murder. He, a long time critic of the Bush Family, is now sending them letters telling George and Jeb that they are doing holy work by trying to save this woman. He feels on behalf of the Jewish religion that this is an attack on everything holy. I have rarely seen this kind of outrage come from my little brother.

My pal Nancy, of Matrixland (see linkie love this) had perhaps the smartest thing to say about this which was, that we all being made privy to a very private situation. This is the husbands business, not ours. It should not have become a public spectacle. She went on to say, “Every day families do this. The real shame is that you can't show your wife the same mercy as you'd show your cat.”

So here’s what I understand about Terri’s background in a nutshell.

**
She suffered severe brain damage back in 1990 following a heart attack. For the last 13 years she’s been kept alive by a feeding tube.
Just about everything was done to bring her back but she never responded.

Several doctors, including those appointed by the courts, have pronounced her to be in a "persistent vegetative state". However Terri parents hired doctors that claim that Terri has a consciousness.

Her husband, Michael Schiavo sought for years to remove the feeding tube and allow Terri “die naturally”. In other words to starve to death.
The issue made it’s way through the Florida courts, and in June of 2003, the Second District Court of Appeal affirmed the trial court's ruling that would allow Michael to have the feeding tube removed from Terri. On October 20, 2003 the Florida Legislature passed bill 35E, which empowered Governor Jeb Bush to issue executive order 03-201, which he did the following day. His executive order required that doctors replace the feeding tube and continue to provide medical attention as needed. Since then, the Florida Supreme Court threw out Jeb Bush’s order and all appeals were denied.

Now the legal battle seems to be over.
Her feeding tube was pulled on March 18 after the last legal victory for her husband.
**

Here we are today.

Many people do not believe she will live thru Easter Weekend.

There are protesters outside her hospice who claim that this happening over Easter Weekend is not a coincidence.

They see something Christ like in the removal of her feeding tube.

Terri’s fate has become a religious battleground and a political battleground with outrage from both sides.

Her husband who feels he is acting on behalf of what his wife wanted, is being called a murderer and perhaps, the rest of this life may be ruined by this stigma.

I think Terri’s husband should have the right to decide this matter.

I do not think you can make blanket statements that removing a feeding tube is a murder. I think these matters have to be done in a case-by-case basis and in this case, was it 28 judges? Or some such number ruled in favor of letting Terri go.

I think the large discussion here is what is life and of course this ties into all the huge red button issues today like stem cell research and abortions.

What is your feeling about the Terri Schiavo Case?

I would really like to know.

One More Columbine

My first thought reading the news about yesterday’s high school shooting
Was oh my god Columbine all over again..

Then I read about how the shootings occurred at an American Indian Reservation..and I felt another part of my heart sink..the part that has heard countless times about the poverty and the strife on the reservations of this country..

I began to read the news not sure which part of my heart would feel torn.
Again…a high school student…killing…then killing himself.. 10 lives lost.

The security guard, dead…a teacher…dead…6 students…and the gunman…dead…over a dozen others wounded….

But our gunman didn’t start his day killing at school..
No…first he killed his grandfather…and his grandfather’s girlfriend.

Reading about the deadliest shooting since Columbine…so many questions come to mind..

How did the boy get the guns?

A shotgun and a hand gun.

Why did he do it?

What was his life like on the Minnesota reservation?

Did the poverty and the unemployment of the reservation play a roll?

Did the cruelty of high school kids play a role?

I imagine all this will un-fold as so many people searching for an answer start to question everyone around this boy.

But all I can see is …more kids dead….more guns…being made available to kids….

I wonder what Charleton Heston…is doing today?

The Right Wing Anti Poster Girl

Often when it comes to things political
I consult with my major mentor Gus who is the person in my life who has the most political knowledge, not to mention an immense knowledge of world history..

He’s sorta my own personal …google on a lotta issues

Another think I love about Gus is that he is willing to lash out at things he hates about the Dems as well as the Republicans…which makes his opinions all the more valuable..

Now…of course, it’s no secret how I feel about this administration, just read the preceding post or a whole bunch of other ones.. but I’ve also been extremely curious to see what it is that so many people like about George Junior…because every single person I talk to on any kind of regular basis, including about 90% of my clients just hates the guy... full on hate, but then I’m a New Yorker…

Reading thru the many comments on my “George Bush Challenge” post I was first struck with the same thing that always happens whenever I post anything against Bush…a wave of anger.

That is not to say liberals are not capable of angry ranting as well. I've experienced that first hand in response to my 100% pro-Israel position...but it sure has happened that every time I have ever had the Chutzpah to come out and say exactly how I feel about the baby bush, the back lash is pretty friggen rude.

Let me tell you ...the ones I deleted weren’t even human.

So here’s what I’m willing to concede about the baby bush…no one person can ever be held accountable for the economy…but certainly the tax cuts for the rich and the service cuts for the poor did not fair well, nor did the billions he has spent in Iraq and if you scroll back to my war time rants, you will see that I was not exactly against going to war, but I was totally against going to war on a lie and without the U.N. and without proving why and without having a plan and so on and so on.

As to the Patriot Act, a good pal just told me that her library records had come back to haunt her …Then I got to thinking of how my life is affected on a daily basis by this. Just last night, I waited in line an hour to go into the Holland Tunnel because no one in my van wanted to get the Easy Pass which would get us thru the tunnel in 10 minutes but put our goings on in the easy to track files.for the CIA or whoever else..

Gus had this to day on the subject of the patriot act..
“The Root problem here is that we don’t need more raw information, we need to use what we have. We already can’t translate most of the Arabic chatter we gather”

I also quoted a few posts back from Matrixland on the subject of loss of privacy which is pretty much what the Patriot Act means to me. “Loss of privacy.”

As to the subject of social security… I am not saying social security doesn’t need help…I’m saying I certainly haven’t heard George Bush say anything that shows me he knows what he’s talking about or how to help Social Security and having been someone who has privately invested with the supposed best advisors and lost my shirt..I have some very real and justifiable fear in what will happen to this money..

I know Republicans are not fond of anything that reeks of socialism and maybe they feel social security is just that and needs to be privatized. but what happens if everyone loses their shirt like really, most green folks do in the stock market…and then come crying to the government when they’re old and broke…we certainly will not be able to let them starve on the street…

Gus’s point on this subject was.. “He (bush) grossly overstates the problems and his proposed solution doesn’t even address those problems. He wants to borrow money to set up a parallel system, so folks won’t mind so much when the old one gets busted up.”

And Mike…as always you crack me up…The Right Wing anti-poster girl…..sure seems so…but you know I’d rather be that, then The Right Wing poster girl..or worse yet. The girl afraid to voice her opinion..

Anyway..as always, I invited diversity here on Rossirant..so leave your comments below…but I do ask you to try and get your point across with some amount of good behavior because if you don’t I will delete you and then no one will read whatever it was you were trying to say.

Oh as to church and state…What we’ve got is a real deal born again boy in the white house
The evangelicals claim him as theirs and certainly had a lot to do with getting him elected..
He clearly has anointed himself as a representative of Jesus and to talk against him well that’s not only anti-American its anti Christ.. some folks might want to talk about the funding going into churches right about now...and how those churches turn around and use their services to turn voters the bush way..
I’m sorry but that’s just scary stuff to me.

I’ve definitely had the feeling, as have a whole lotta others that the baby bush thinks he’s being divinely inspired…

Forget about the environment!
Armageddon is coming!

Just out of curiosity has there ever been a president worse for the environment?? I’d really like to know on that one.

There was one comment I really have to mention
by gullyborg who seems to say
its okay to be against gay marriage because the rest of the world is
so following that kind of thinking is like saying its okay to do it if everyone else is
then whats the point of fighting so hard for democracy in the middle east
certainly everyone else in the middle east is not doing it..

and speaking of comments JR…when you do comment in English and in a space that can be read in a few paragraphs, not the mile long scroll down of the last post..I often find what you have to say interesting. I rarely agree with you, are most often annoyed by you but you do often manage to get your point across which I would imagine is really the purpose of these forums isn’t it?

Since only a few of you touched on the environment..
how bout we dedicate the comments below
to Georgies affect on the environment
Because 100 or 200 years from now...
I gotta feeling thats really gonna be the only thing that matters..
wheter or not we even have a world to live in...

Friday, March 18

The George Bush Challenge

Okay I put this out to JR after my Jimmy Carter post awhile back
but did not get a response..
maybe cause JR did not read this..
still I think this is a challenge I'd like to put out to everyone..

I have a few GWBush loving...folks who like to comment on my site
sometimes rather fiercely and sometime rather rudely
everytime i say anything against the baby bush..

Obviously a whole lotta people in this country love the guy
and I gotta assume that some of them are not inbred hillbillies
or evangelicals

so here's my challenge.

tell me 10 great things about George Bush as president..
thats it..
if you love the guy so much
you voted for him
you defend him
you wanna lynch anyone who speaks out against him
then i'd like to hear it
yes i would
put your proof where your mouth is

i await your comments
10 great things about george bush as president

come on
go ahead make my day

cause i surely must be missing something here

now then
just to put my comments where my mouth is
ill give you right now
10 terrible things about george bush as president

1) he is against a women's right to choose
2)he is against a gay americans right to marry
3)he is against the basic human liberties we have fought for...many aspects of the patriot act are a full on anti-american values document
4)he is eroding the separation of church and state
5)he has imploded the economy
6)he handled going to war in Iraq about as badly as was humanly possible
he either lied to this country about the weapons of mass destruction or ran off to war without proof which is just as bad
7)he did not have a proper plan for the aftermath of the war in Iraq, hence the building billions of dollars and the death toll
8) he has zero savy in dealing with world leaders but excellant at alienating allies
9)he wants to pack the supreme court with right wing pro-lifers...what ever happened to the middle ground here?
10) he now wants to threaten social security...and if his new plan for SS has the same affect as he did on the billions surplus, turned into billions or is it trillians deficit in the country...we better all forget about getting a penny when we retire
okay

there thats the first 10 that popped into mind

anyway
save your nasty
comments
as i will delete you if you get rude
and noboby will read whatever point you were trying to make
just stick to the challenge
10 great things about george bush

i want to hear em
go ahead
educate me

Wednesday, March 16

peterson, jacko

well its certainly hard to feel sorry for scott peterson
right now
i mean a guy goes out and murders his wife and their un-born child
ya just dont shed a tear for him do ya?

so no tears for scotty poo

but i have to say i do kinda feel sorry for michael jackson right now

i remember watching the documentary with the boy in question
and i recognized the look of entitlement on the boys face
id seen it before on the face of kids who were put in a position of equality with grown ups..by being their lover..or some such thing..

my guess is that Michael feels he is a little boy, he never grew up, has no interest in sex with grown ups..he's a very little boy
and probably does what he feels... little boys do innocently to each other
just doodling and tickling under the covers..

i dont see him as a butt man is what im saying..here to be blunt

i don't know what happened to michael
maybe he was molested as a child
maybe he saw too much as a child
something held him back
in his peter pan- never land way..

there is, of course, the possibility that he is completely innocent
and just being destroyed for money
and honey if thats the case
i feel even sorrier for him..

watching the horrifying transformation of michael from handsome black man
to horrific white woman/man/alien has been strange and very sad..

i know some of you may think jackson does not deserve symphathy
but he seems to me to be
frightened, essentially good hearted
but supremely disturbed..

i guess we shall see what happens to the jacko next

it doesn't look good

this from my fave queer site

Supporters liken California decision to its repeal on interracial marriage ban in the '40s

Superior Court Judge Richard Kramer in Monday's ruling likened the ban on same-sex marriage to laws requiring racial segregation, and said there appears to be "no rational purpose" for denying marriage to gay couples. Interestingly, in 1948, California was the first state to strike down a ban on interracial marriage. Of course, the usual suspects plan an immediate appeal of the landmark ruling. "This is a crazy ruling by an arrogant San Francisco judge who apparently hates marriage and the voters," says Randy Thomasson, executive director of the Sacramento-based Campaign for California Families, to whom we say, takes one to know one.

thanks queerday

So three cheers for the California Superior Court ruling in favor of same-sex marriage
My new hero is Judge Richard Kramer!

well here's how i stand on gay marriage
now obviously im for it
but the thing is
i would be for it even if it didn't personally affect my life
the same way i would be for mixed raced marriage
and if laws against that weren't a shameful slice of this country's not so distant past
i dont know what was..

but here we are today

its 2005
and we are under attack by a surge of conservatism
that i would liken to the 1950's

the new scape-goat is not
the communist sympathizers
its gay americans..

vote for bush
he'll stop those damn queers from getting hitched

put god back in the white-house

save our children from the damn queers!

you know
i'm not saying i have a first hand knowledge of what the lord wants..
but i do know
he/she's gotta care a lot more about what kind of person you are
are you good, kind, loving, helpful to others, truthful to yourself
then about who you love..

and honey
if the higher power, the lord, jehovah
whatever you want to call, him or her
did think homosexuality was a sin
then millions of people around the world
wouldn't be gay

it's pretty much like saying
its a sin to be Chinese
or its a sin to be white

no
being gay is not a choice
who the hell would choose to have a harder life?
who would choose to be opressed by their own country?
who would choose to be gay bashed?
who would choose to be thrown out by their families?
who would choose to not have the right to marry their lover?
who would choose to not have the same rights to adopt children?
who would choose to be kicked out of a military career if they open their mouth?
who would choose to have to hide who and what they are around the world for fear of being murdered?

It's 2005
how bout we just get over ourselves already
we are all created equal

ra ra radio

thanks to all the great support and compliments today
about my show
and especially to mr johnnylockheart
who made my day with his nice words
the web world is a strange thing
and you feel you get to know someone
and then
voila you hear their voice
and add that to the filing cabinet in your head
its a whole sorta backwards
way of meeting people
a pal of mine
compared it to the days
of letter writing in yesteryear
when you meet someone thru their letters
and then after feeling as though you knew them
intimately meet them in person
get married
have 10 kids
and never write a %^$#%^&&# letter again
but hmm
that wasn't where I was going with this
hahah
and no mike i do not plan on marrying you
unless of course you have a sex change
and start to look like angelina jolie
or jennifer beales

speaking of which
has anyone watched THE L WORD
dang that show is hot

anyway
thanks mucho
for your support
and here's hoping it all leads to bigger and better and badder things

toodles to your tuchas

Dickless and Deleted

okay
ive said it once
ill say again
over here at rossirant
you sure as hell don't have to agree with me
hell its probably a whole lot more interesting if you don't
but you are such a disrespectful prick
that you can't read someone elses opinion without
leaving nasty childish insulting
comments
than i shall just delete your pimply little ass

to all others regardless of whether or not we agree often, rarely or never
comment away
just remember
that getting your point across works a whole lot better if you do so with some
amount of respect

tis all i got to say on that
but as to jimmy carter
i thought he was a joke while in the white house
but think hes been amazing ever since then
a late bloomer and a great bloomer
and i do think
it would be interesting to see what he could do today
if he so chose
if you think thats nuts
fine
dont agree with me
im sure its a rare opinion
but its mine
and this is my site
so heres where i get to voice my
OPINION
i think CLINTON was the best thing to walk into the white house since JFK
and a whole lotta folks out there think so too
some don't
fine
comment away
but like i said
nasty insulting remarks
just get you sent to invisible land
where all the dickless get deleted

see ya

Matrix Mama

once in awhile i read something on someone's site
that just knocks me off my tuchas
that happened this morning when i perused the great
nancy aka jillmatrix aka matrixland on my linkie love list dears
shes going off on her personal freedoms
stripped away in her everyday life
here's just a few snippets but go read her for yourself
the chick rocks
nancy FYI is also part of the dynamic duo that run Queerday

she says..

When I was a kid, they told us this was the best country in the world because here you were free to believe what you wanted and say what you thought. Other countries were totalitarian places where the people were watched at all times because their own governments were afraid of them.

I have an ordinary life in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There is nothing remarkable about me. On an average weekday, I'm on a security camera on the bus, in the lobby and in the elevator of my building, and I'm not sure where else within my actual office. I pass through two checkpoints to get into my office, and I don't work at the CIA.

If I use my debit card to pay for my bus tickets, the police can trace where I went and when from the bar codes on the tickets.

They might subpoena a list of the movies I rented or the books I checked out of the library. Or they could just hit TiVo with a court order and see what I've watched and recorded for the last two years. My VoIP company can probably provide you with sound files of my voicemail, if you're interested, not to mention a recap of everyone I've called and been called by.

...
go read the rest at Matrixland

Bill and Jimmy and Junya

howdy folks
just have a whole buncha stuff to tell you all
first off
the radio station got lots of great feedback and im thinking some of that may be due to you darlins...
anyway so we're on for at least a year of BITE THIS!
A radio show for them is 26 shows but they most likely will have me do 13 shows and rerun them once to make 26 which is fine with moi as id love to have these shows heard more then once especially in the summer when the population of cape cod goes up by like times 100!

so its all good
the next show FYI
is this MONDAY the 14th at 12:45 in the afternoon
go to WOMR.org and click on listen live

now a lot of people could not hear it
and some people figured out ways to beat firefox and other such things to hear it
so if the folks who were able to hear it
wouldn't mind leaving a comment or two
with some advice on how us mortals might be able to hear it
i'd be mightly obliged
in particular
i the dinasaur still have dial up
so if you have any tips for dial up dinasaurs
do fill me in

on other news
with former president Bill Clinton back in hospital
i got to thinking about what things felt like in this country when he was president
for me
and for most of my friends
Bill Clinton was the first president
we'd known or personally experienced..depending on age
since JFK that had inspired what felt like real love

i adored the guy
thought he was brilliant
great for the economy
great for world peace
and would have really and truly left this country in a fabulous place
if we hadn't ruined his entire last two years in office
worrying about where he put his cigar

who gives a rat's ass about monica lewinsky or any of the other
tacky ass heffas he doodled?!

those two years coulda been spent
empowering our nation
instead of defending himself against an enslaught
of conservativism

we were the laughing stock
of europe who would have gladly traded in all their politicians for one bill clinton

i say let the man come back
and re-do those two years
we really could use him now honey

since he left office
we've had more hatred over our president
that i or any of my pals can remember or have experienced
since well ...hmm...since Nixon

our economy is in the toilet
our liberties are threatened by our own government
our right to choose is threatened
our right to marry if we happen to be gay is up for a possible
constitutional amendment
and world peace is in the toilet

i have hope that the rise is democracy
some spurned by war in Iraq
some spurned by a need for peace in Israel
some spurned by a need for change in the middle east
some spurned by money
will give way to a new world
a cleaning of the slate

where a new face
a bright face
a smart face
a kind face
a savy face
can fill the presidents shoes
and put us into the great place
we deserve to be

one thing for sure ...that shiney face can not and must not be jeb bush...if that man runs a country as badly as his state runs an election lord help us all...

meanwhile
i for one
would be up for
bringing back Jimmy Carter
he was the brunt of jokes as president
but honey that man has rocked ever since he left the whitehouse!!

Wednesday, March 9

Mean Martha

okay so the queen of mean is out of jail
and no i don't mean leona helmsley
i mean the woman who makes leona seem like
the fairy godmother
yep
martha stewart

oh honeys
being in the food industry
ive heard the stories
about the martha the merciless for years
her abusing her staff
her taking the credit for other peoples ideas
her treating people in her company like slaves
just a nasty bleached blonde
ho- cake
thats what im saying

but i do think as far as her being sent to jail
well one does have to wonder
why the thousands of people who do this every day on wall street dont go to jail
i think martha was just an excellant female icon figure head to decapitate

but like i said
i shed no tears for la bitch

i do think jail is gonna turn out to be very good for her career

already got more attention on her
that if she'd won the international tuna casserole convention

so since martha is now supposed to be proving her goodness to the world
or at least to her paroll officer
does she have a paroll officer??
heres a few ideas i had
on how martha
can make it all right again

1) apologize to her daughter and to the women who work in her company
and then to all the women in this country for masquerading as the perfect home-maker when in fact that bitch does none of her own damn cooking
and then she makes us all feel bad just cause we cant grow our own vegetables, milk our own cows and make our own cheese

2) since shes gonna make millions from her jail time
how bout sharing oh 15% of that with some of the poor babes she met in jail, maybe change their lives for the better

3) invent a fabulous new cookie (or have someone else do it and take the credit)
and donate 100% of the proceeds to helping ex cons start a new life
better yet...hire those ex-cons to work at martha stewart living..should liven things up a bit

4) die her hair a color other then blonde..for the sake of myself and all blondes
who need better role models then martha or pamela anderson lee...

5) admit on public television that she really is
the anti -christ
honey we've all known it in our hearts for years

Klaus Nomi

okay show of hands errr comments how many people
remember Klaus Nomi?

Miike R...I'm thinking you may be my only regular who remembers him?

I was in New Jersey when Nomi made his debut at a new wave festival in the east village..in the late 70's..

and even though i lived only an hour and fifteen minutes from Manhattan
one could be beaten with bottles for daring to embrace anything punk or outwardly gay or new wavish

by 1979 I'd joined in with a group of renegade bi-sexual and gay
and straight theatre folks.. our scene centered around a very inspirational character a handsome young gay man named Matthew Kasten..

Matthew and his friends Lauren and Magdelana formed the punk light opera
and lipsinked dressed in futuristic space like clothing to everything from opera to david bowie to the B52's
as it turns out Klaus was one of Matthew's major inspirations

by the time i moved to Brooklyn in 1981
i was too poor to go to the downtown punk clubs Klaus performed at
places like The Mudd Club
and Irving Plaza
but knowing who Klaus was
and admiring his work
seemed to put me into a special group
of rare affectionados

I remember the day Klaus stepped out on stage
on Saturday Night Live
to back up David Bowie
it was one of those rare moments
when i knew i was watching the most orginal thing
to hit the music scene
in years

by the time i could afford the admission to places like
Max's Kansas City
Nomi was dead
one of the first to die
of what they then called "The Gay Cancer"

a few years later I discovered that my roomate Janus
had been part of the Nomi show
as had her pals Joey and Tony
half of Klaus Nomi's band had been sitting in my living room all along

its been years since i thought of Klaus Nomi
and years since i bumped into anyone who'd heard of him
so i was almost felled
when i saw his face on a movie poster
under which read
THE NOMI SONG

well i just got back from watching
THE NOMI SONG
and i am sitting here
as amazed
and saddened
as i expected to be

it was like he emerged from outer space
part man
part woman
part alien
he would walk out onto the stage
of dingy dank punk clubs
and then came this voice
falsetto
amazing
haunting
it was hard to believe it was really coming out of him
no one knew where to put Klaus
was he punk
was he classical opera
was he pop
was he new wave
he was a non-human entity
all to himself

but in the end
he died mostly alone
a stigma
of the disease no one knew about
20 years later
he resonates still

i was so happy to see him preserved
brought back to life
in this documentary
a fleeting star
from mars

we come from outer space
to save the human race

Rice rap

can i just for the record
how much i hate condoleeza rice
talk about your ass kissing
bush loving (the pres kind not the lesbian kind)
yes men (women sorta)
just hate her
plus i'm having a whole lotta trouble figuring out how she is qualified for her current position..except of course for her most obvious job
to stay loyal to georgie poo

but hey
ive got an open mind
so if anyone knows anything
great about condoleeza
or if anyone
has a pearl of wisdom they can share
about how she is qualified for her job
please do share
i shall listen

meanwhile
on other news
im about go back to ptown to tape 4 more radio shows
woooo
and hoooooo

Wednesday, March 2

this and that and this

so listen i got just a little out of the loop
here in the snow
and the wine
and the radio show and all
but whats happening in lebanon now
the people uprising and all
that's a good thing isn't it?
cause im thinking
the people uprising is always a good thing
well hmm
usually

im also thinking this country might be heading for a lil ol uprising ourselves

you know
i have a good pal who shall go nameless
and what this pal is going thru in this country
when it comes to
immigration
is so scary
so un-American
i can't really say more
cause i'd hate for the FBI to hold my
anti Bush banter against my pal
but lets just say what i have experienced first hand
by watching his experience
had made me understand this country is open to people of all nations
providing they are HIV negative, straight, rich, educated and willing to lie for their country..

scary shit

well on other news
i had a facial today
and now i look like i just went 10 rounds with tyson
but kept my ears

so im hiding out till the swelling goes down
and making my facialist take me out to dinner when it does

shangrilala and fa la

well kids
there's nothing like spending two days in an old farmhouse
in a snow storm
to get a girl thinking about what really matters in life
my formerly wild child
now wild with 2 year old child
gal pal Anne marie
and her dashing dude hubby Jamie
invited me to escape my problemos
and spend the snow storm
in their endlessly fabulous home
honey
these two have it all
gorgeous son
drop dead fabulous house
anne marie is a killer chef
they've been together for years and still do the deed
forget it!
they got it going!!
and i guess it was good for me to be around that
cause sometimes
i forget what the real thing looks like
and more so feels like
you know what i mean
so thanks
anne marie for cooking me trout
thanks jamie for grilling me a steak
and teaching me how to make a fire
even though i smoked your house out
and you'll be airing it out till the next millenium
oops
never let a blonde light the fire
haha
anyway
im back
facing my demons
taking deep breaths
and getting my lion-ness strength back
i know
i know
you want to hear my thoughts about lebanon
about bush
about syria
but for today
let me just be
the girl who's thinking of snow storms
and roaring fires
tomorrow
ill be the bitch again

toodles
