Follow your Bliss
howdy folks
well im doing the unthinkable tonight
actually voluntarily giving up The L Word
in favor of watching the oscars
oh my lord what is happening to me?
well okay there is the little matter of the fact that i know they will repeat the L word...and that im invited over for a small oscar soirree and really cant get my hostess to turn the channel so i can watch jennifer beale get it on with
um anyone anyone at all...
damn
she is hot hot hot
but i digress as usual..
the best thing about this wonderful radio show oppurtunity
is that it's getting me writing
sadly ive always this freaky kind of art chick
that needs pressure to create
like for instance
i rarely paint
but the second i think i may be in a show paint my wazoo off
i write not nearly as much or as often as i should
or could
but the second i have a deadline
i hop to it
my best jump start
is a bitchy editor calling me up and saying
rossi we need 1,000 words in three hours
love it
so having a show thats part memoir
and or essay and part food
means i have to get off my tuchas
hell i only have 6 months worth of material
in my archives
so i better start channeling my inner
dumpling
and get to the key board
love it
anyway
there has been enormous upheaval in every part of my life as of late
doesn't seem to be a single facet of my existence that is not in the midst of transformation
but i know if i stay honest
keep writing
keep dreaming
keep following my bliss
that ill be okay
now as to the following the bliss part
i need to thank erna a very talented artist in provincetown for writing that on a piece of paper, and handing it to me to sleep with, wake up to
whatever it takes..
follow your bliss
that pretty much says it all doesn't it?
please tune in tomorrow Monday
at 12:45
to hear me live on the radio
just click on the WOMR link
and go to listen live
or play or whatever the hell the button says
and then pop me a comment and let me know what you think
follow
your follow
your follow your

this and that
hey kids
sorry for the delay in posting
my good pal liz who lets me plug in to sign on
hasn't been feeling well
so it woulda been a tad rude to drag her little tuchas out of bed just so i could update you all
so i am actually, GASP, in the provincetown public library
posting todays rant
honey
this little darlin hasn't been to a library in yearssss
anyway
i was supposed to tape the first show
FYI
the producers
liked bite me
liked spoken food
but the over-all compromise thus far
is BITE THIS
anyway
was supposed to tape yesterday but a little snow storm kept the producer home bound
so i came in today to meet up with the lovely diana
who, it should be known, was an early champion of getting me on the air
thanks DIANA
and thanks to Claire from sister talk who asked Diana to check me out
anyway
as it turns out Bob the head honcho and an excellantly mellow dude
(im butt kissing here...he reads my site now)
got stuck in the elevator
it was way upsetting and we all spent the next hour trying every possible way to get him out
he kept his cool
i must say
i woulda been on the floor screaming
ATICA
anyway
im hoping hes out by now
but
NATCH
no taping
so hopefully
there will be a chance for me to tape tonight
if not
i will be all dressed up with no place to go
all the way back to manhattan
and won't have a chance to tape show numero uno till march
i will keep ya posted
now then
on other news
am i the only one
who is starting to think
we're about to go war against Syria?
now lets see
we're in dept
nobody wants to volunteer
we have depleted our resources to the extreme in Iraq
so please
please
please tell me
we are not going to war against syria
cause there just isn't enough pita bread in the world
to ease the crapola that would start
as to the baby bush's fence mending in europe
hey bush boy
why not throw a few major contracts the european way
and you'll start to see your approval rating go way the hell up
ah well
im glad to see there may finally be a real chance for peace
in israel
course the jaded side of me
thinks that now that sharon is giving the palestinians the gaza
pulling back the wall
freeing hundreds and hundreds of palestinian prisoners
if we don't see a real commitment to stopping terror its gonna be
a big waste of time
so a word to the folks in what may be the democratic country of palestine one day
stop the terror
take the offer
shake the hand
move on
sheesh somebody should put me in charge of this crap
i'd get some hands shaking
or just kick everyone's butt

Rossi Radio Show
hey kids
here i am in provincetown mass
sitting next to my good pal lizita of the north
lots of creative things happening all at once
every time i enter ptown
i feel like i explode
in a poo pooo of creativity
hows that for a visual
creative poo poo anyone?
anyway
the good news is
or shall i say the great news
that the local radio station here
womr
go to www.womr.org and click on "listen live"
is giving me my own 15 minute radio show
to air every other monday from 12:45 till 1:00 in the afternoon
yesindeedeee
i shall rock the radio
the show is supposed to be half memoir and half food talk
no title yet
but thus far
lizita and i have come up with
Eat Speak
Food for Thought
Bite Me
Spoken Food
Eating My Life
and
15 Minute Goulash
why not give me a comment or two
and tell me which one you like
or add a few ideas of your own
anyway
kids
its truly exciting
and just what i needed to get my creative thing
back on the groove
so wooo hoooo
and awoooooooo
by the way
my happy moment
does not
and will not
prevent me from
ranting and raving
about all the things that constantly aggravate me
the burning bush in the white house
on the top of my list
so i shall bitch on and
boogie ooggie ooogie

V-Day
Valentines day is strange bag of complex crapola
kinda the way on New Year's eve you can feel suicidal if you are not surrounded by love when the clock strikes 12
on valentines day you can feel suicidal if you're not getting laid around 12
afternoon, evening what have ya
its a lotta pressure for one friggen day named after
St Valentine?
who the hell was that anyway
the patron saint of condoms?
anyway
i did not get laid on Valentines day
and was not with a romantic lady
either
or at least not a lady who is romantic with moi
but i was surrounded by love
i went to see my very good friend
deborah karpel
perform an opera recital
and honey she knocked my socks off
debbie is a petite beautiful woman
who has always looked to me as though she stepped out of another time
perhaps the 1920's in Paris
or the 1940s in old New York..
she exudes that magical somethingness that makes people stars
and heart breakers
but still
even after all the years i have known her
it is still shocking to remember in one high note
the power-house of a voice that blasts out of her small frame
she has, what opera folks call "a big voice"
and honey i mean it
big, beautiful
high
rich
amazing
any producers, agents,
theatre folks
opera directors out there
drop me a line cause you do need to know this woman!
but i digress
anyway
after the opera
our post opera ensemble
with documentarian
Liz ( of liz and debbie) at the lead
went to the Plaza Hotel
to have perhaps a farewell drink at the famed OAK BAR
say it isnt so
but it is
the plaza
the home of eloise
one of the last great hurrahs of the manhattan of yesteryear
will soon be condo-ed
already the majestic oak room
is gone
i have heard the oak bar may stay
and i hope so
but losing the plaza
will line up there with all the other great losses of old new york
there are so few left
how i long for more of old new york
in the city fillling more every day with
disney
starbucks
and
trump towers
sigh
but i digress again
sipping wine at the oak room
looking out at the many saffron gates
the artist Cristo
has just installed in Central Park
part of a 16 day installation work
and at the love at my table
it really was a great
Valentines day
so no
i did not get laid
for those keeping count
but hey
opera
art
wine
and old new york
not a bad v-day all in all

Jeff Jarvis Rocks CNN
well i just about thought i was hallucinating
when i flipped on CNN a minute ago
and saw the darling Jeff Jarvis
of Buzzmachine (see linky love list dearies "warlog")
taking part in a lively discussion about just who or what makes a journalist and in paricular about the controversial jeff gannon
jarvis
as always made a fabulous figure head for the blogosphere
i met jeff shortly after i started my sight and he was a wonderful inspiration and
mentor
he has long
championed the blog world as an alternative to conventional media
and coming from the conventional media world
jarvis
was just the guy to do it
he commands respect and
demands it for the blogosphere
so jeff
congrats on
your CNN appearance
your rocked as always
keep up the good work
New Day
let us hope today
that holding this first election
in Iraq
will be the first stage
of the healing
and the self-empowering of
this wounded, complex country
regardless of how you feel about the war
and how you feel about the way this president has handled taking us to war
and handled winning the peace after getting there
today
its all about Iraq
trying as best it can to take itself back
from America
from its past wounds with Hussein
from its many terrorist factions all wanting their piece
from the rest of the world
this war and its aftermath are costing americans billions
billions of dollars not spent
on our health-care
billions that could be put into the much talked about social security
billions that could save our homeless
billions that could go to Aids research
billions that could give jobs to the jobless
billions that could lift the economy
let us hope that the money
and the lives
and the pain
and the anguish
of the people in our country
who have lost so much because of this war
will not be in vain
that in the end
Iraq will stand tall and proud
as a brave and brilliant democracy
a first of its kind
amongst its neighbors
today
let us hope
is the beginning
of a new era
for Iraq
and the beginning of a healing
era
for all those who have lost everything
and who today
need to see something good come of it

Death to a Great Man
just want to break into my usual
bitchy life rant
to say a fond farewell
to Arthur Miller
the world needs its artists, writers and great thinkers
especially in this age of nuclear weapons, terror, war, religious fundamentalism and all out crapola
that North Korea admits they have Nukes
and the world loses Miller right afterwards
sorta seems like the way the world is running these days
less beauty
more ugly
but then
i'm guessing people have thought this way
during and after every war in the history of wars..
i remember on a vacation in London
i went to a modern art exhibition
and traced the changes of art before, during and after world war two
from artists in occupied Paris..
it was amazing
the colors changed to blacks
the wonder
turned to lost
the beginnings
looked like endings..
that was over 50 years ago
and those artists are now long gone
their children and their grandchildren
their great children
walk the earth today
but the lessons
of art turned black
under opression
of paint turned crimson
under a military horizon
is a lesson that never goes out of style
but i digress
and this rant has certainly spun around in a more abstract way then usual
i guess all im trying to say is
bring on the poets, the painters, the philosophers..
we need them now

Church and state
has anyone watched the documentary
about the evangelical influence on politics
and most particularly GW Bush?
It's a fascinating documentary.
It shows the rise of the Christian right wing
and later on the moral majority
in politics
Richard Nixon was the first prize for right wingers
but then he turned into a big embarrassment
They didn't back Bush senior
until the born again Bush junya
took on his daddy’s cause
Bush junya
was seen as the real deal
a true blue born again boy
with Jesus leading the way
some folks think this was what tipped the scale on getting senior elected
some folks think the baby bush not helping the cause is why senior was not re-elected
sighting the 30 plus million votes
the evangelicals thru into the mix
the documentary suggested it was the evangelicals that made junior governor
how else
at 40 he was a loser
a rich boy with nothing to show for it but his daddy’s money
he'd failed at just about everything
he was a drunk on top of it
then he found jesus
he didn't talk to well (and dummed himself down a few notches to appeal to the folksy crowd)
he didn't have a track record of anything but being born again
and the son of a president to brag about
so he rode the evangelical wave to governorship
then he rode the evangelical wave to presidency
and used it again
despite a terrible record
to get himself re-elected
he used words
like The Evil Doers
being the first president anyone could recall
to speak in terms of good and evil
he's done everything in his power
to stop funding for abortion
stop gay marriage
bring the church into the state
and the evangelicals are thrilled..
course they are
they've got something close to a preacher in the white house
so here's the question to you all
regardless of whether you are christian
or not
regardless of whether you are religious or not
is it right for the president of the united states
to rule this country with christian fundamentalist values?
isn't the president of the united states supposed to worship as he(one day she)
chooses
but to keep his (oh her) religious beliefs out of the white house..?
isnt' that how this country is supposed to operate?
am i missing something
i don't eat pork, owing to being raised kosher as a kid
but if we elected a jewish president
i would fight to my last breath to keep pork legal
for all those who enjoy it..
if we elected a jewish president
i would fight to my last breath
to keep working on saturday legal
to keep not having to wear a hat legal
to keep the hebrew language out of the constitution
i want a separation of church and state
and that separation seems to be getting very blurry these days

Asbury Rules
well i just got back from asbury park new jersey
where i continue to document the re-vitalizing of this tiny city
its an interesting thing to watch unfold
while i was in asbury there was quite a bit of griping
about the 5 day cover story the Asbury Park Press did on Asbury
basically writing it up like its a crime ridden hell hole that can only be saved
by a major redevelopment and a scaring off of all minorities
and im like
um yeah
didn't the asbury park press
keep the great name
and abandon asbury park in its hour of need
to take itself and its jobs elsewhere
hmmm
and i was also like
great this kinda of press can really kick a city down a notch
when shallow folks take it to heart
but the rest of me
was like ok
i moved to crown heights brooklyn in 1981
oh you know muggings, race riots, crime, poverty, wild dogs
rats the size of dogs...just that kinda stuff...
i moved to avenue c in the east village
in the late 90's (not a total pioneer but hey it was still heroin hotel then and you really, really had to watch your tuchas on C)
i've seen cities and neighborhoods
come up, go down
come up..
so a little rough-ness doesn't scare me
what i like
and what i suspect a lot of new yorkers like
about asbury park new jersey
is that it has edge
EDGE
honey
edge is a rare thing
in New Jersey
trust me
i know
i spent the first half of my childhood in bradley beach
then after the race riots
my parents panicked
and dragged us to Rumson
where we were considered
pure poverty cause we didn't have a pool or a limo
the folks at rumson woulda rather
eaten dirt then go to Asbury
but Asbury had always been something special to me
as a kid in Bradley
i thrilled to shop in the MACY's Like "Steinbachs" department store
where i would ride the escalators and let the perfume ladies
spritz me again and again
then the rides on the boardwalk
and my beloved Palace (alas now gone) amusements
where i saved up two summers worth of skee-ball coupons to
buy the entire James Bond mini figurine set..
and Howard Johnsons' Bright Orange Walls and grilled cheese sandwiches was there anything better in the world....
in highschool
i began to embrace punk rock
a real no-no in Rumson
where no one broke out of the mold
i also began to embrace my gay side ...a bigger no no in rumson
and the only place
safe for either of these vices
was Asbury
my theatre pals took me dancing at the M&K
where punk ruled...
then we went dancing at the Odyssey a Saturday Night Fever style disco
and my heart sored at the sight of men dancing with me
women dancing with women
yes
asbury once again
offered me thrills, chills and freedom
i visited asbury often in the 23 years since i left
as if to keep in touch..
driving by the YMCA where my dad too me to swim every wed night
and watched with a heavy heart
and the ruined..devastated city
then something started to happen
a turn around
and awakening
and no it was not going to happen
in one big swoop by big developers
who later lost their shirts leaving behing an old
rusted iron dinasour of a building
it was going to be grass roots movement
led
by the gay community
champion pioneers always
and sure enough
the construction started..
the restaurants and stores began to open
the rainbow flags
waved
and then
a decade later
the big developers followed..
but the EDGE
the delicious
wonderful
diverse
risky
funky
gritty edge
is still there
and though i hope the crime
goes pronto
i hope the edge stays forever
and the diversity
i love this little city
reminds me of the lower-east-side
and the east village
great gritty places filled with history
re-paved by artists and the gay community and open-minded people
and to the Asbury Park Press
well i have this to say
suck my dick (well the one in the shoebox anyway)
Thursday, February 3
please save my rights
I did not watch the baby bush give his speech yesterday
because frankly
his face makes me ill
so does his voice
but today
today im ready to rant
yet again
what im ready to rant about
is the erosion of my human rights
we are watching an attack on our constitution
an amendment to this sacred document
its only purpose
to deny gay Americans the right to marry
we are watching conservatives across this nation
dance with glee, feeling the victory of the baby bush
is their call to glory
but my stomach really turned when
the conservatives took on PBS, for daring to include families headed by same sex couples while introducing children to diversity..
sure PBS you know Satan's channel..
As to the baby bush's state of the union address..
he renewed his dedication to amending the constitution to ban gay marriage
so this basically means
he's not my president
any person that wants to tarnish the constitution of this country by using it for bias is not my president thats all there is to it
he's just not my president
i will not
i can not
i do not
respect a person who wants to force the founding documents of this country
to condone homophobia and bias..
i am watching all the work made since the stonewall riots
stomped on destroyed
so many giant steps backwards
i cant even count them
and for those who say
well im not gay
why should i fight for the rights of gay americans?
i say
its the old
tale
they came for us and you did nothing
then they came for you
and there was no one left to defend you
defend my rights today
and i promise to fight for you tomorrow
Wednesday, February 2
the kitty drama finale
okay for those few
who really do want to know the end of the kitty drama
i finally caught the last kitten on sunday night and brought her over to susan the kitty rescue mama
but this kitty was not at all like the last one
she was feisty and rather mean
susan had to wear a glove to touch her
after two days monitoring susan told me that this little kitty could not be domesticated
well at least not by anyone who wasn't willing to spend several months working on her
next bit of news is that she is a he
its hard to tell when theyre under 5 months
anyway
i guess its been the luck of the draw
caught 4 kittens
two are now safely in homes
one is in foster care with his daddy saying it looks like a no go
and he will have to be released
and this last one looking like a no go too
when they're 4 and half to 5 months old
its just dumb luck or maybe
the aggressive ones
might have had different dads
yeah just learned that
the mom can have on litter with many dads
who knew?
course im bummed
but with mommy soon to be released back into the yard
and her two agressive kids
at least they will be together'
and we'll keep feeding them
and at least they got all their vet care
fixed, shots the whole shebang
should give them an easier life
but yeah
im bummed
wanted a happy ending
the rescue folks tell me
i have to get used to cats over 2 or 3 months old
being spay and release when they're feral
and i should rejoice that two
were tamed
ok
ill try
and until my living situation includes
a house and a yard
i wont be taking in any of these aggressive kitties
so giving them a life of plenty of food
and the vet care they needed
is the next best thing
sigh
**
on good news
susan just sent me a letter and photo from the very happy parents
of Taco the first kitten
Susan and I caught in the lot
and its such a happy ending
i will try to post it on the sight
heard from Kathleen
that Zoro who she has named Gomez
is doing fine too
although he still tries to sleep in his kitty litter box
oyy
and ewww
but he's such an
awwwww
