iraq today

i saw the movie
Lions for lambs
or was it lambs for lions?
hmm anyway
with robert redford
merryl streep
tom cruise

the movie itself was a tad slow
but the message was still powerful

brave soldiers giving up their lives
as politicians who don't know what the fuck they are doing
make their battle plans
the press who didn't have the balls to denounce the war
because the press became more business and less news
that has in previous years
just going along with the pressure

robert redford plays a college professor trying to turn around a student who is wasting his potential
into someone who tries to do something
some litlte thing to change the world
merryl streep plays the reporter who is torn between her conscience and her job

tom cruise plays the politician who needs to make a win
out of the iraq loss
and is clearly got presidential ambitions
immediately putting all the blame on
"worst intel in our history"

it was
sad
infuriating
sometimes sleazy
with two brave young men
caught in the cross fire

like i said the movie was a bit slow
but the message was still there

the lions are being led by the lambs

so here we are today
we are still at war
we still do not have a win
the war has now lasted longer then world war 2
and dragging on this long
with no end
no win

is a loss

hind sight is of course 20/20
and were we to go back in time
i think most would vote not to invade iraq
or certainly to do so quite differently

so what now
what now in aphganistan
what now in iraq
how do we pull out
when
what would a win look like
how will we recognize when its time to go

i used to spend a lot of time on this site bashing
george bush junior
not fond of senior either
but lately
it just seems like a waste of hot air
the country was duped into voting him in twice
if he did win
better to spend my hot air
trying to fuel something better for us all
then wasting it on something clearly
toxic

i hear the call to pull the troops out
but think leaving iraq vulnerable and open
now would be like a waste of all the lives lost
but how do we get there
and are we learning our lessons
