well its june again
which means two things to me
the big wedding season in which i cater a hundred thousand weddings (slight exaggeration) and then fall face first onto the beach come end of june and try not to move until september
and gay pride
this gay pride in america seems to have more meaning to me then it has in many years
maybe its because i was in provincetown when the first gay marriage excitement started
maybe its because i've never felt so much homophobia in this country
as i do now watching all the red states stand up and scream
hell no, queers can't go...down the aisle
maybe its just that i'm finally old enough, savy enough and smart enough to understand the full spetrum of prejudice and reverse prejudice and the need to stand tall and proud against it
i feel of late that my judaism has been under attack by countless people who have used the plight of the palestinian as a very clever way to scape-goat jews
i feel of late that my gay-dom is under attack by countless people who feel that just because they have a dick and their spouse does not, or vice versa
that they have the god-given right to marry and no one else does
so for june
as the sun warms
the ocean calls
and i cater countless weddings of couples who do have the right to marry
i say
stand tall
stand proud
and celebrate your diversity
regardless of what it is
your lover is beautiful
your color is beautiful
your religion is beautiful
and so are you
be proud
