highrise luxury condo in the parking lot
of the beloved and NOW GONE RATNERS?!

the chasids have moved to brooklyn
the artists to newark or red hook
or the north pole
and my beloved manhattan is turning into the emerald city
only the rich and the poor can be here
the poor in the projects
the rich in the kazillion dollar co-ops

and still
whenever i travel
i know again and again
there's no place like manhattan
under its skin
there is still edge
