what the world needs now is
love sweet love
its the only thing worth thinking offffffffff
except of course
for war,
the election
un-employment
poverty
AIDS
no flu shot
discrimination
racism
sexism
homophobia
anti-semitism
anti-Israelism that covers up what really so often is anti-semitism
and of course
countless hours dedicated to the pondering of Donald Trump's hair
but i digress
I got out of Manhattan for a night to go out to Asbury Park New Jersey
which as many folks know was a dead town now on its way to coming back to life
I have watched the rise and fall and rise of many citys and towns in my life and considering that im still a young babe thats a lot to say
watching the demise of Asbury Park was a truly sad thing for me
watching it come back to life
spurred on by the gay community
is a truly exciting and inspiring thing to watch
of course i want to, and may be, a part of it..in some way
the first sexy SOHO style gallery opened up in a former
dark little hell hole of a basement
condos are sprouting out of long abandoned buildings
drug addicts are leaving
young parents
and hipster gays are arriving
whats really cool is that the white gay boys are working hand in hand
with the hispanic and African American heterosexual community
to re-vitalize the small city, (town?)
its a cool thing to watch
people who normally would have nothing to say to each other
walking across barriers to work together
I watched
a GUPPIE from Jersey City
shake hands and work side by side with a Haitian father surrounded by a loud and mostly old world family
what did they have in common? they both spoke French
and they'd both invested in Asbury Park
course its not all roses
in ASBURY
many folks are pretty damn pissed off
about having their property declared "eminent domain"
which i thought could only be done if you were right smack dab in the middle of what was gonna be a highway
but what NJ decided means you're right in the middle of the saving of a blighted city
so not all happy and for good reason
and of course most of the exitment in Asbury is about money
but still
i like it
i like seeing the city rise
i like seeing burnt out homes brought back to life
i like knowing the gorgeous boardwalk which had its heyday in the 1920s is being saved
i like it
it was nice to take a break from Bush and his anti-semitic
anti-freedom
stance
to see folks working hand it hand to save a city
was a nice break
maybe some of the asbury park folks
could take over the country too
cause hand in hand.. all races, religions, sexual preferences
we do need to stick together
don't we?
