okay im gonna share a little web world woe
that i know michele from small victory can relate to
when i started writing this site
it really was about everything i was seeing, feeling experiencing
as a downtown new yorker in "911", as ground zero volunteer, as a witness and mostly
as a human being gravitating thru something far too large for me to digest..
This is something i know many of you, perhaps most of you, also felt
and perhaps are still feeling..
Because both sides of the partisan scale cared so deeply about the horror of "911" ( or at least had the smarts to pretend to) it didn't seem to matter much whether or not I was democrat or republican
and it didn't seem to matter very much whether or not my readers were either
When i started sharing my horror over the atrocities done to Israel
by suicide bombers
my anger at the flaring anti-semitism
my concern over whether or not the real Palestinian agenda
was to see, as Arafat, once publicly declared, "every jew floating face down in the dead sea," i aquired a lot of right wing, republican readers..
Being a liberal, democrat i was surprised at my new fans, but also thrilled, reaching out to people who would so strongly dis-agree with me at a wide variety of subjects.. is almost a bigger compliment then touching those who are with me..
I'd never made a secret of the fact that I was horrified of how George Bush won (stole) office, but it wasn't until his ridiculous handling of our international affairs, his attack on our civil liberties and his crusades against a woman's right to choose
and a gay person's right to marry.. that i really let loose with my feelings against him
and voila!
like magic!
my right wing readers vanished
except, of course, for the occasional commentary by some person
too cowardly to leave a name or email address
who will right something rude and insulting
classy folks very classy
so here's the thing
i don't agree with everything democrats have to say
i don't agree with everything liberals of any kind have to say
and i do agree with some things republicans
and right wingers have to say
and i do think that there is at least a small slice of truth hanging from everyone's tree
for example....
i adore michele at small victory for her pride, her honesty, her
ability to rise above what her readers want her to say
and just say whatever the hell she feels
and honey
trust me
i don't agree with michele A LOT
and michele has been an early supporter of mine from day one
(thanks sista!)
so why can't it work in reverse?
why is it that this post "911" breed of right wing republicans have to be so close minded?
why be so afraid to listen to an opinion other than your own?
to be so angry
so defensive
so close-minded
either means you don't feel confident about the walk you're walking
or you don't believe in freedom to voice any opinion other than your own
which means you don't want a democracy
you want a dictatorship
listen
this partisan stuff
can really erase the chance to see clearly what is happening in front of us
if you want to blindly follow george bush
because you feel we are at war and all must blindly follow the leader
then at least be honest about what you're doing
say it out loud
i don't want to see, hear or feel anything that inhibits my ability to blindly follow
our leader and chief!
if that is not the case
then open up for crying out loud
you might find some truth
coming from the mouths
or the sites
of people
you feel you have nothing in common with
i do all the time
all the time
